This half-day course will present the latest advances in the treatment of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis in the distal radio-ulnar joint, trapeziometacarpal, metacarpophalangeal and proximal interphalangeal joints. There will be a heavy focus on prosthetic arthroplasty where pros and cons will be outlined. Through a series of didactic sessions and case discussions, participants will enhance their understanding of the use of small joint arthroplasty and alternatives in RA and OA.
Learning Objectives: - Discuss the gamut of treatment options for management of arthritis of the MCP, PIP, trapeziometacarpal and distal radio-ulnar joints
- Illustrate the indications for surgical management of arthritis of these joints
- Demonstrate prosthetic arthroplasty of these joint and balance this with more traditional options
- Present the advantages and disadvantages of small joint arthroplasty
