This Precourse will address topics in hand surgery that don't have straightforward surgical treatments. Four controversial topics and their treatment options will be covered: CMC osteoarthritis, non-acute scapholunate ligament tear, PIP dorsal fracture-dislocation, and distal radio-ulnar impaction following a distal ulnar resection.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify treatment options for CMC osteoarthritis, including early-stage disease with minimal radiographic changes
- Define the anatomical issues associated with fracture-dislocation of the PIP joint and determine the surgical options available for treatment
- Describe the multiple surgical treatments described for non-acute SL ligament injury as well as their advantages and disadvantages
- Discuss the entity of radio-ulnar impaction and the treatment and salvage of this difficult problem
